Germany-Turkey Postgame Quotes

Germany

Coach Dirk Bauermann: "I felt we learned a lot from last night's game (an over-time victory over the Czech Republic). We learned how we can play and cannot play. We didn't move the ball at all. But we did that tonight. And that's very important because it gets Dirk (Nowitzki) better shots and other people better shots as well. Everybody contributed in some way. We're really happy that we won and beat a very good team in Turkey. Winning the first two games is big for us, and we will now try to find a way to beat Lithuania. I know we have 11 very good players and one superstar. Last night not everybody played with very great confidence. Today everybody played with confidence. You can't miss a shot you don't take, and they have to feel free to take open shots."

Jan Jagla: "It was a great game for us. We played really great on defense, and that really helped us to find our game on offense."

Turkey

Coach Bogdan Tanjevic: "I can't explain what happened. We can't let our opponents play how they want to. If you want to play in Europe, you can’t let teams like Lithuania and Germany shot 50% from the floor and hold us to 30% shooting. I have no other explanation. We had 45 days and we had good tactical preparation as well. There was no sign that we would play like we did. How can I speak (in the locker-room) after this disaster? It's impossible to find any nice words - something that they should accept. I don't want to speak about this disaster in the locker-room. We have time in practice tomorrow."

Guard Hakan Demirel: "We lost the game as a team. Tomorrow is the most important game for us. We just need to focus on that game. We couldn't catch the team spirit on the court or execute on offense. We are just looking for a leader, I guess. I don't know really."
