Known as “The Professor”, Wojcik is the best Polish player over the last 15 years and one of the best in the country’s history. He started to play basketball as a 14-year-old and, 23 years later, he’s still throwing an orange ball into a red circle. But for the last two decades he has done it for a living. Wojcik was born in a small city called Olawa, near Wroclaw, in a region where basketball is more popular then anywhere else in Poland. The 2.09 m post player won seven national titles in Poland (one with Pruszkow, four with Slask Wroclaw and two in Sopot) and triumphed once in the Belgian league (with Charleroi). He was a four-time MVP of the Polish league and had a successful career in Greece and Spain. Wojcik spent eight seasons playing at the top of European club basketball, seven in the Euroleague with Peristeri, Unicaja Malaga, Slask Wroclaw and Prokom Trefl Sopot, and one year in the SuproLeague with Slask.
His best season abroad was in 2001-2002, as a member of Peristeri. There, Wojcik averaged 18.4 points per game in the Euroleague and 20.5 points in ESAKE. He played some unbelievable games in the 1998 Polish league finals in what will be remembered as one of the best in country history (Mazowszanka Pruszkow took on Slask Wroclaw). Wojcik was also selected to the Polish All-Star Game 11 times, was named MVP in 1999 and twice won the Slam Dunk Contest. Wojcik will also be remembered as the first Polish player ever invited to a training camp of an NBA team when he tried out for the Los Angeles Clippers in 1995.
Wojcik has been a member of the Polish National Team for 18 years before taking a break and returning when his former Wroclaw coach Andrej Urlep was appointed to lead the national side. Wojcik played in EuroBasket in 1991 and in 1997 when Poland finished seventh. In 1991 he was a member of the starting five and was recognized as the biggest potential star to come out of Poland in years. In 1997, he was the second-leading scorer at EuroBasket averaging 11.2 points per contest. His natural shooting talent makes him a deadly offensive weapon and all his coaches agree that he is one of the best players they have ever worked with. He has skills, technique, a good jump shot, great inside moves and the ability to put the ball on the floor. But it’s his experience and influence, especially in the locker room, that this young Polish team covets the most! Nobody will be surprised to learn that Wojcik will be the go-to player for Urlep’s team. Asked about retirement, Adam replies, “I will be playing basketball as long as I enjoy it.” Basketball and family, those are the most important things for Adam, who often plays basketball and football with his twin sons, Jan and Szymon (7 years old).
