Last year, coach Recalcati decided to split the historical center duo of Marconato and Chiacig - offering just one shirt for that role. Marconato won the race to the World Championship. But his performance was unsatisfying, just like EuroBasket 2005. So this time around Marconato, at 32, has to fight for his place on the team. Since 1997, Marconato has won four medals with Italy and is one of the real veterans of the team, alongside Galanda. However, Marconato’s time seems to be coming to an end.  Recalcati's return means the continued use of power forwards at the center spot and with Bargnani (2.13), Gigli (2.09) and Galanda (2.10) back in the National Team, plus Mason Rocca as a more prototypical post player, the spot is crowded. Marconato has an excellent shooting touch from five meters, making him dangerous in both pick-and-roll and pick-and-pop situations. With Benetton, he won 13 trophies, plus the Copa del Rey with Barcelona.
