Joseph Gomis

Career: Evreux (France Pro B, 1994-1996), Evreux (France-Pro A, 1996-2000), Nancy (France-Pro A, 2000-02), Leche Rio Breogan Lugo (Spain-ACB, 2002-05), Grupo Capitol Valladolid (Spain-ACB, 2005-07).

Gomis started his career with a silver medal at the 1996 U18 European Championship and was supposed to be the second best player after Jérôme Moïso. But he scored only 6.7 ppg despite obvious talent that impressed NBA scouts.  The 29 year-old had a slow but steady development with his hometown team, Evreux, where he ended up scoring 11.3 points per game in 2000. Gomis played two years with Nancy and won the last-ever Korac Cup in 2002 while averaging 11.4 points per contest. Nicknamed “Jo” or “Jogo”, Gomis’ fans and coaches have always argued over whether he is a point guard or a shooting guard in a playmaker’s body.  Used mainly as a number two in Valladolid the past two years, he is also considered a shooting guard by Claude Bergeaud as he has been a consistent scorer in Europe's best league.
