An explosive player with tremendous potential, Cunha is capable of dunking from around the free throw line. Good on defense and superb in the transition game, Cunha can drive into traffic and score. He can also play with his back to the basket. He has made an impressive improvement over the past three years as he was forced to take more responsibilities with Porto. He became as important as any foreign player in the league averaging 11.0 points and 5.7 rebounds per contest in 2006-2007. Cunha has also become mentally stronger though this part of his game remains a weakness. At age 18, Paulo won the Adidas 3 on 3 Street Basketball tournament and the dunk contest played in Germany. At 19, he played in the U20 World Championship in Portugal, where he saw Spain's Juniores de Oro (Gasol, Navarro, Calderon) become World Champions. That was a key moment for him, as he decided to work harder to become a true professional player. He has become one of the key players on the National Team and his performances in the qualifying round were decisive on both ends of the court.  He is sure to be one of the key players for Portugal at EuroBasket 2007.
