Two years ago, Dyachok had plenty of reasons to thank his lucky stars. An improbable climb from the minor divisions to Superleague with his alma mater Universitet, a first call-up to the Russian National Team and, as a contract with mighty CSKA Moscow – what could be better? However, the fairy tale story came to an end when Dyachok became the last player to be cut by Sergei Babkov on the eve of EuroBasket 2005. Soon Dyachok suffered a back injury which ruled him out until mid-January. After spending the end of the season on the bench, he was loaned to Khimki, which proved to be a good move as he improved his three-point shooting and proved ready to bang inside and do the dirty work. As a result, he earned a call-up from Blatt.
