Career: Slovan Ljubljana (Slovenia-Division 1A, 2001-03), Benetton Treviso (Italy-Lega, 2003-05), Udine (Italy-Lega, 2005), Benetton Treviso (Italy-Lega, 2005-06), Toronto Raptors (Canada-NBA). Selected in the second round of the 2005 NBA Draft (#58), by the Toronto Raptors
After Marko Milič, Radoslav Nesterovič, Saša Vujačič, Primož Brezec, Beno Udrih and Boštjan Nachbar “Sloki” became the seventh Slovenian player who got his chance in the NBA. Even though he spent most of his time on the bench this season for the Toronto Raptors, Slokar did show on some occasions that he belongs in the NBA, as evidenced by an 18-point performance in a game against the Pistons on April 17th. After playing alongside Italian superstar Andrea Bargnani at Benneton Treviso, he is still in the shadow of the number one pick from last June's NBA Draft. Another big man with great size and fundamentals, Uros is a lefty who likes to bang inside, can score in various ways and doesn’t shy away from his defensive duties. He signed his first professional contract with Slovan in 2000 and remained there for three years before moving to Benetton as many talented Slovenians have done. Loaned to Snaidero Udine in January 2005, Slokar posted solid numbers which earned him a selection in the 2005 NBA draft. |
