Yakhouba Diawara

Career: Dijon (France-Pro A, 1999-2001), Southern Idaho JC (USA-NJCAA, 2001-03), Pepperdine (USA-NCAA, 2003-05), Dijon (France-Pro A, 2005-06), Fortitudo Bologna (Italy-Lega, 2005-06), Denver Nuggets (USA-NBA, 2006-07).

Diawara chose to go to college in the U.S. to help his game evolve after not receiving enough playing time at Dijon as a youngster. A physical specimen, he has managed to teach himself a decent jump shot, becoming much more active on the perimeter and even hitting shots from behind the three-point line. Back in Europe after being the last player cut by Miami, he signed with Dijon. Despite great numbers there, Diawara transferred to Climamio Bologna in the middle of the season, surprising everybody by making the starting five thanks to his new found shooting ability from behind the arch. With his amazing strength and his new-found perimeter game, Diawara offered a combination that Bologna needed, as Climamio finished Lega as Benetton's runner-up. The Paris native fulfilled his NBA dreams last fall, choosing Denver over a better offer from the Mavericks so that he could get more playing time. The Nuggets loved his work and defensive ethics but the arrival of Allen Iverson pushed him a bit farther down the bench. Also a member of the 2000 European Junior champions, he won a bronze medal in 2002 in the U20 European Championship.
