FYROM Destroy Estonia In Pivotal Game
22 August 2007

FYROM turned Group C on its head by beating previously undefeated Estonia like a drum on Wednesday.

The Baltic country travelled to Skopje on the back of three wins, including a 72-66 triumph over FYROM at the start of the additional qualifying round for EuroBasket 2007.

But FYROM thrashed the Estonians 95-50 for their second victory in three games and they can now go level at the top on Saturday – the final night of group play – if they win at Sweden.

Because of their superior points differential in two games with Estonia, FYROM would advance to the next phase of the tournament in Spain with a victory at Sweden.

Wednesday’s game was knotted at 18-18 after the first quarter but Estonia’s defense disappeared over the next 10 minutes as FYROM poured in 28 points to lead 46-31 at half-time.

By the end of the third quarter, FYROM led 75-42 and they cruised over the final 10 minutes.

Vbrica Stefanov led five players in double figures for the winners with 17 points.
