If anyone doubts that Latvia will be a much stronger side at this summer's EuroBasket, they've got another think coming.
Just look at the results they have achieved so far this month.
The Latvians won a Baltic showdown with Lithuania, 84-83, and then beat Belarus in two games, 84-52 and 96-90.
Next was an 82-74 victory over New Zealand, and then an 87-80 win over Russia followed by Sunday's 77-75 victory over Poland.
If there is a difference to this year's team to the very competitive but ultimately unsuccessful Latvian teams of years past, it is the presence of a quality center who is on the verge of superstardom in the NBA, Andris Biedrins.
The 21-year-old, who is coming off a breakout year with the Golden State Warriors when he averaged 9.5 points and 9.3 rebounds, scored 14 and grabbed 11 boards in the August 10 win over the Andrei Kirilenko and the Russians.
In the victory over the Poles, the star man was Kristaps Janicenoks, a 1.96m forward, and 2.07m forward Kaspars Cipruss, a player who averaged almost 15 points per contest in their successful qualifying campaign.
Janicenoks had 17 points and Cipruss 15 against Poland.
