PLAYER PROFILE

Career: New Hampton High-School (USA. 1997-98). Wake Forest (NCAA. 1998-2002). CSKA Moscow (Russia-Superleague. 2002-03). Sacramento Kings (NBA. 2003-…). Drafted in the second round of the 2002 NBA draft (#50) by the Boston Celtics.

Like many fellow Lithuanian citizens, Songaila chose to fly to the United States in 1997. Two great high school years (24ppg, 11rpg) led him to Wake Forest, where he replaced Tim Duncan. He impressed NBA scouts (17.8ppg and 8.1rpg) but decided to sign with CSKA Moscow, where he proved a consistent and energetic power forward. Willing to use his good body under the basket, Songaila is also very dangerous off the dribble. Very good offensive rebounder, Songaila plays with intensity. With Vlade Divac, Chris Webber and Brad Miller in Sacramento, he did not have a lot of playing time, but he definitely belongs in the NBA. His inside leadership is required in the national team now that Eurelijus Zukauskas has retired.
