Career: Ilirija Ljubljana (Slovenia-Division 1B, 2003-04), Geoplin Slovan (Slovenia-Division 1A, 2004-06), Murcia (Spain-ACB, 2006-07)
Goran Dragic was one of the great revelations of the 2005-06 season. He was still just a teenager when he started his professional career and only a few very well informed basketball fans knew of him. But in the spring of 2006, Goran was one of the best players of the Adriatic League, finishing as the number two scorer with 15.2 points per game and was suddenly a legitimate candidate for the senior National Team even though he never played with them in an official competition. His next step was to sign a contract with Tau Ceramica Vitoria, but only after a Slovenian court gave him permission to move abroad as Slovan refused to release his "letter of clearance". Tau, which had plenty of guards on its roster, lent him to Murcia where he had some problems adjusting and struggled with injuries averaging 4.6 points and 1.7 assists per game, though he was playing better towards the end of the season dropping 17 points on Joventut in just 18 minutes. |
