Israel captain Meir Tapiro will not play a part in his country's EuroBasket qualifying campaign as his fractured ankle threatens to keep him sidelined for five weeks.

Israel begin their qualification games against Bosnia-Herzegovina on August 31 but will have to manage without key man Tapiro.

Although detected over two weeks ago, the ankle injury was only formally diagnosed on Wednesday.

Tapiro hopes to be fit enough to join his Hapoel Jerusalem team-mates for pre-season training on September 21. 

At last year's EuroBasket, Taprio was third on the team in scoring with 8.5 ppg.
