Russia-Israel Postgame Quotes

Russia

Coach David Blatt: "We played very well. Our players approached the game in the right way with the right attitude and the right level of energy. Israel played the later game last night and played very hard against Greece and that took something away from them physically and mentally.”

“After we made the first break in the game we didn't have a lot more to deal with. Israel played many tough games in the last weeks and they did a great job.”

“Today the better team won, but I wish Israel with all my heart the best of luck tomorrow. When you win it's always fun to coach. In a normal game there are two kinds of joy if you win – the actual joy of winning but also the win of who was your opponent. Tonight I have joy only from the first type.”

“Greece is a very experienced team and has a lot of success in Europe in all age groups.”

“We saw some of the things Israel did yesterday that were very good and smart and we'll try to do that. We can match up with them better physically.”

“Before the games I would have been satisfied to qualify from this group with two wins, but now it's not enough for me.”

Forward Andrei Kirilenko: "It's an important win for us. Israel is a good team, they just caught a very bad day but we used that for our advantage.”

“We're happy to qualify already after two games, but we don't plan to stop there."

Guard Anton Ponkrashov: "Before the game coach said that we didn't shoot well yesterday and made a lot of turnovers so we had to improve that, and that's what we did. Our opponent made 15 turnovers and we only ten. We made a good job also in rebound. Coach asked us to stop Tapiro and that's what we did."

Israel

Coach Zvi Sherf: "Congratulations to Russia for the win. Unfortunately we played very bad and below our level. We have to play better. Russia played very well. Maybe part of what Blatt said about tiredness is true. We have to find in the next 24 hours a way to come to the game against Serbia to play our best.”

“I'm not happy and satisfied with the way we played, but we have to recover for tomorrow, because this is how it works in EuroBasket.”

“At some point we saw that we have no chance to win, so we let a few bench players to play more so we'll share the tiredness. From now on we must think only on how to play better tomorrow.”

“Serbia is a good team. We'll see how they do against Greece and then do all our preparations to win that game."

Forward Guy Pnini: "I want to congratulate Russia for the win. They played aggressive from the start and deserved to win. We must stay together and think about what happened tonight, so we could come back to our ability tomorrow. I hope we'll be able to do that."

Guard Yotam Halperin: "We can't allow ourselves to play like that again. We were very tired from the game against Greece and the games that we had to play to qualify, but I don't want to use that as an excuse. Russia is a great team, and they can go very far in this tournament."
