A 79-70 triumph over Poland was enough to see Italy progress to the qualifying round at the EuroBasket.
Guard Marco Belinelli had a game-high 20 points for the winning side while forward Andrea Bargnani added 19 points - 16 of which came in the first half.
Poland was quite successful early on in their basketball history, including a fourth place in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, another fourth place in the second EuroBasket in Riga (1937) and a bronze medal in Kaunas two years later.
Known as “The Professor”, Wojcik is the best Polish player over the last 15 years and one of the best in the country’s history. He started to play basketball as a 14-year-old and, 23 years later, he’s still throwing an orange ball into a red circle.
