Career: Telecom Lisboa (Portugal-Liga TMN, 1996-98), Nevada-Reno (USA-NCAA, 1998- 2001), Panionios (Greece-ESAKE, 2001-02), Queluz (Portugal-Liga TMN, 2002-04), Grupo Capitol Valladolid (Spain-Liga ACB, 2004-07).
On a good day, João Santos can be deadly. He’s a great three-point shooter, defends well and is very quick for a player his size. Santos decided to leave Portugal in search of better knowledge of the game. He now has great international experience after having played in the NCAA, Greece and Spain. The Lisbon native averaged 5.8 points and 2.4 rebounds per game for Valladolid last season while playing 17 minutes per contest. He needs to become a more consistent rebounder to reach a higher level but this EuroBasket could be an opportunity to show the European basketball community what he can do. Coach Melnychuk has to find a way to make better use of him than in 2005. He is eager to play in EuroBasket, especially since it is taking place in Spain, João's home for the past three seasons.
