PLAYER PROFILE

Career: Spartak Moscow (Russia-Superleague B, 2000-01), Dynamo Moscow (Russia-Superleague B, 2001-02), Dynamo Moscow (Russia-Superleague, 2002-04), Universitet Surgut (Russia-Superleague, 2004-05), Dynamo Moscow (Russia-Superleague, 2005-07)

Necessity is the mother of invention and when, during the 2005-06 season, Dynamo Moscow’s head coach Dusan Ivkovic faced the problem of a very thin backcourt, he found no other solution but to give his returnee from Universitet Surgut Sergei Bykov an opportunity to run the point. A few months later, finding himself in nearly the same situation, newly promoted Russian head coach David Blatt followed the Serbian maestro’s example. Bykov has not let his coaches down as this energetic, brave, but offensively limited off-guard suddenly emerged as a top-class distributor of the ball and finished as the Russian’s best assists man at 2.2 per game. Sergei turned out to be surprisingly adept at leading the fast break and can even finish it himself at times.
